Proof of alcohol abstinence is proof that a person has not consumed alcohol for a certain period of time. Proof of alcohol abstinence may be required, for example, as part of a medical-psychological examination (MPU) if the person has been found to be inappropriate due to alcohol abuse.

There are various methods to provide proof of abstinence from alcohol. One possibility is the regular conduct of Urine analyses over a certain period of time. If these tests do not detect alcohol, this is considered proof of abstinence.

Proof of abstinence from alcohol can help to restore confidence in the person’s ability to drive and contribute to a positive MPU, the strict Assessment criteria are subject to the BASt for the MPU However, it should be noted that proof of abstinence alone is not sufficient to ensure driving suitability or a positive MPU. Other factors such as the Liver function or the person's behavior and behavioral changes during abstinence must also be taken into account.

It is important to emphasize that proof of abstinence from alcohol is only meaningful if the person is actually abstinent and does not consume alcohol. Forgery or manipulation of the evidence can have serious consequences and should therefore be avoided.
