Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is an enzyme involved in the oxidation of alcohol to acetaldehyde. It converts ethanol to acetaldehyde, which is then further metabolized to acetate. ADH is mainly present in the liver and helps reduce alcohol levels in the body. A deficiency of ADH can lead to alcohol being broken down more slowly and therefore staying in the body longer, preventing the corresponding Liver values at the MPU are increased.
