Liver function tests are laboratory parameters used to assess liver function and detect possible liver disease. They provide information about liver health and are important indicators of liver damage caused by alcohol, drugs, medications, infections, or other causes. Medical-psychological examination (MPU) liver values can be used to assess alcohol dependence or alcohol consumption.
The most important liver values are: Alanine aminotransferase (ALT or GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST or GOT), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (AP) and bilirubin.
Liver function tests are determined as part of a blood test and can be used, along with other tests and interviews, to assess driving ability during the MPU (Medical Test for Drivers). It's important to note that abnormal liver function tests do not always indicate alcohol or drug abuse. A thorough examination and diagnosis by a physician is necessary to determine the exact cause of the changes in liver function tests.
