MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume) is a medical term used in blood tests to determine the average volume of red blood cells (erythrocytes). MCV is an important indicator of blood health and can indicate various diseases and deficiencies.

In terms of the Medical-psychological examination (MPU) the MCV can play a role if the person being examined is Alcohol abuse has become noticeable. Increased alcohol consumption can lead to damage to red blood cells and thus increase the MCV. An elevated MCV concentration in the blood can therefore be considered an indication of alcohol abuse.

The MPU usually includes a medical examination, which also includes a Blood sample taken and an examination is carried out to check the person's alcohol consumption. An elevated MCV concentration can be indicated along with other indicators such as certain Liver values and BARGE (breath alcohol concentration) can help assess the person's alcohol consumption.

It is important to note that an elevated MCV concentration in the blood does not automatically indicate alcohol abuse and that other factors such as deficiencies or diseases can also increase the MCV. Therefore, the assessment of alcohol consumption should always be carried out in conjunction with other factors and indicators and should be carried out by a qualified physician or MPU assessor .
